National Careers Week is a time dedicated to exploring and celebrating the vast array of career opportunities available to individuals across different industries and professions. It serves as a reminder that our career choices are not set in stone; rather, they are dynamic and ever-evolving paths that can be shaped and nurtured to align with our passions, interests, and goals. Whether you’re a student exploring future options, a professional considering a career change, or someone seeking personal growth, National Careers Week is the perfect occasion to delve into the exciting world of possibilities that lies ahead.

This week presents a unique opportunity to explore the diverse and rewarding paths within community nursing, discover the positive impact it has on individuals and communities, and ignite your passion for making a difference in the lives of others through compassionate and personalized care.

At Aster Home Care, we consider ourselves fortunate to have a diverse team comprising professionals from various realms of the healthcare profession. National Careers Week provides us the opportunity to delve into the perspectives of our remarkable healthcare professionals as they share their experiences, insights, and the transformative impact they witness while providing compassionate community care.

Petrina, our esteemed Nursing Team Leader at Aster Home Care, brings over 30 years of invaluable experience in the healthcare industry. From her early years in surgical nursing to her extensive work in community nursing, Petrina has amassed a wealth of knowledge and a diverse range of nursing experiences throughout her remarkable career.

“Nursing is very rewarding as we are in a person’s life at the very best of times and the very worst of times. We welcome babies into the world, and we are there as a person takes their last breath and leaves the world- what a privilege.

If you are thinking about a career in nursing, my advice to you would be to take a breath and jump in with both feet, be open to new experiences and adventures. Have a willingness to learn and to be taught. Be kind, compassionate and empathetic but firm. Don’t carry it all on your shoulders learn to breath and let go.”

Debra, our newly appointed NDIS Intake Service Coordinator, brings a wealth of experience in the Disability sector to our team. With her valuable insights and expertise, she offers a unique perspective on healthcare careers, especially in the context of disability support.

“I chose to work within the Healthcare industry to support and guide individuals on what could be their worst moment in life to the best moment of their life. I find that a simple smile when a client achieves the small steps to be one of the most rewarding elements of my job. If I was to offer a piece of advice to someone who was interested in working within the sector, it would be that the little moments are what make the job worthwhile.”

At Aster Home Care, we are fortunate to have a team of dedicated healthcare professionals like Petrina and Debra, who bring a wealth of experience and insights to their respective roles. Their passion for making a difference in the lives of others through compassionate care shines through their words of wisdom and advice. Whether you’re considering a career in nursing or seeking personal growth within the healthcare industry, their stories serve as inspiration to embrace new experiences, cultivate kindness and empathy, and find fulfillment in the meaningful moments that come with healthcare careers. National Careers Week encourages us all to embark on a journey of exploration, learning, and discovery as we navigate the exciting world of healthcare opportunities and contribute to the well-being of individuals and communities.

International Nurses Day, celebrated annually on May 12th, is a day dedicated to honoring the incredible contributions and unwavering dedication of nurses around the world. The theme for International Nurses Day 2023 is A Voice to Lead: Our Nurses. Our Future. The 2023 theme addresses the global health challenges exacerbated by a shortage of nurses.

Nurses not only attend to the physical needs of patients but also provide emotional support and reassurance to individuals and their families. Their ability to listen, understand, and empathize fosters trust and creates a healing environment. They go above and beyond their call of duty, often working long hours and sacrificing personal time to ensure the well-being of others.

On this International Nurses Day, we acknowledge the significant contributions made by nurses globally, but more specifically the wonderful nurses that make up the Aster Home Care team. We recognize their resilience, dedication, and sacrifices. Their commitment to the profession and the communities they serve is unparalleled.

International Nurses Day serves as a reminder of the strong spirit and indispensable role of nurses in healthcare systems worldwide. Their commitment to excellence and unwavering compassion makes a significant impact on the lives of individuals, families, and communities. As we celebrate this day, let us extend our heartfelt appreciation to nurses for their extraordinary contributions.

Remember, a simple “thank you” to a nurse can go a long way in recognizing their hard work and expressing our appreciation for their invaluable contributions to healthcare.

As we approach Anzac Day 2023, Aster Home Care is proud to reflect on the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women who have served in the Australian and New Zealand armed forces. As a provider of in-home nursing care, we have had the privilege of caring for many veteran clients and their spouses over the years, and we recognise the immense sacrifices they have made for our country. This year, Anzac Day holds even greater significance as it marks the 108th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli, and we are proud to announce that we will be attending the Burleigh Heads Dawn Service to pay our respects.

At Aster Home Care, we believe that it is our duty to honour and remember our veterans, not just on Anzac Day but every day. That is why this year, in addition to our in-home nursing care services, we are pleased to be delivering Anzac Cookies to our veteran clients and their spouses as a symbol of our respect and gratitude for their service. The Anzac Cookie has become an iconic symbol of Anzac Day, and its history is steeped in the service and sacrifice of our troops.

Our in-home nursing care services are designed to provide compassionate and personalised care to our veteran clients and their spouses, helping them to maintain their independence and quality of life. We believe that this care should be delivered with the utmost respect and gratitude for their service, and we are honoured to be able to provide it.

The Dawn Service is a poignant and solemn event, and we are honoured to be able to attend and pay our respects to those who have served. On behalf of Aster, Petrina Carter, Nursing Team Leader (and ex-Army Nursing Corps), will lay a wreath to show our support and solidarity with the veteran community and to honour their service and sacrifice. The Dawn Service will run from 4:15am – 5:30 am, and is to be held at the Memorial Park Cenotaph, corner of Connor Street and Gold Coast Highway, Burleigh Heads.

As we approach Anzac Day 2023, let us remember the sacrifices made by our veterans, and let us honour their memory with compassion, respect and gratitude. We encourage you to join us to commemorate this special day, and to pay your own respects to the brave men and women who have served our country.

Anzac Day is a national day of remembrance in Australia and New Zealand that broadly commemorates all Australians and New Zealanders “who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations” and “the contribution and suffering of all those who have served”.
“Anzac Day Biscuit Drop” has become Aster Home Care annual tradition and our amazing team of nurses delivered the best home-made Anzac biscuits to all our clients to thank them for their service.
